Biography:
Master Instructor Chris Guffey began his martial arts training in 1991, at the age of
6, at the local Tang Soo Do school on Luke AFB in Arizona led by Master Thomas
Caulfield.  He completed his training to 1st geup before his family relocated.

In 1995, his father was stationed at Osan, Korea.  Master Guffey had the
opportunity to continue his Tang Soo Do training under Master Lee, Hon Yi.  His
family left Korea for Misawa, Japan in 1996.  During his time in Japan, Master
Guffey left his traditional martial arts study to train in wrestling.

In 1999, his family moved to Yigo, Guam where he returned to his Tang Soo Do
study with Instructor Aubrey Wagner.  Master Guffey earned his 1st Dan in 2000
and was able to complete his training up to 3rd Dan before his Instructor
relocated.  Master Guffey briefly trained in Chinese Kenpo before his family moved.

In March of 2001, at the age of 15, Master Guffey's family moved back to Misawa,
Japan where he and Instructor Dante Kent began teaching at an established Tang
Soo Do school led by Instructor Rob Pisano and Master Demetrio Aguila.  This
school was led under the guidance of Master Choe, Ki’un.  During his time as an
Instructor he was able to teach, and train with, many Tae Kwon Do Black Belts as
well as Instructors in Kuk Sool Won and Kaju Kenbo.  His students competed in
sparring tournaments quarterly between local schools; successfully defending the
traveling trophy the whole time he was there.  Master Guffey left Japan in August
of 2003 to begin college in Arizona.

In September of 2005, Master Guffey began CG Martial Arts Academy to share his
passion of the martial arts.  Students of our schools have successfully medaled in
tournaments on the local, national, and international level.

During his stay here, he has had the honor to train with many great Masters of the
martial arts including; Instructor Chris Devorce and Master Michael Leoni in Hung
Gar and Chinese weaponry, Master Joseph Eagar and Master Yang, Jwing-Ming in
Northern Longfist and Chinese weaponry, Master Peter Hill in Taijiquan and
Qigong, Master Jinheng Li (Jet Li’s training brother at the Beijing Wushu School) in
Chen Taijiquan and Chinese weaponry, and Haidong Gumdo with Master Jeong-
Woo Kim.

Master Guffey is the youngest American Master in Haidong Gumdo and one of the
youngest worldwide.  Martial arts are a lifelong pursuit that one can never truly
master, this is why Master Guffey actively pursues and continues his education.
